SAFETY, HEALTHY AND ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

GITUMA ENGINEERING LTD HSE management policy is designed to integrate the management of HSE practices into one program that embraces a project or activity from beginning to end and is consistent throughout the company. This has provided efficiency in the execution of work with a competitive advantage to clients through reliability and reduced risks, improved tracking of HSE performance measures that indicate how we manage impacts, and great opportunities to provide innovative solutions to HSE challenges.

The policy has been adopted by the Board of Directors and applies to all employees, customers, stakeholders, and visitors in all our operations.

  • Provide a safe and healthy work environment to all our employees.
  • Reduce our effects to environmental impact due to our processes and optimize the use green energy sources.
  • Meet or exceed regulatory, legal requirements and International agreements on HSE.
  • Ensure HSE consideration are integrated into all our activities.
  • Be a responsible member of society committed to continuously improve in HSE Eradicating all incidents and injuries at our workplace.

HIV/AIDS POLICY STATEMENT

Our Motto: Let’s face this problem together

GITUMA ENGINEERING LTD recognizes that HIV/AIDS endangers our success by threatening the well-being of our employees and that of our clients and service providers. To deal with the issue proactively, we are committed to assisting our employees infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS. The details of this undertaking can be found in the GITUMA ENGINEERING LTD HIV/AIDS Workplace Policy document.

  • GITUMA ENGINEERING LTD will not carry out direct or indirect pre- employment screening for HIV/AIDS as a pre-requisite for employment.
  •  GITUMA ENGINEERING LTD will endeavor to educate all employees about HIV/AIDS prevention, transmission and treatment.
  • HIV infection, in itself, does not constitute lack of fitness to work, so an employee cannot and will not be dismissed simply because he/she is HIV-positive.
  •  All medical records will be kept confidential. It is up to the employee to release information concerning his/her HIV status if he/she chooses to.
  • If an employee is unable to work because of an AIDS-related illness, reasonable alternative working arrangements will be made where possible.
  •  GITUMA ENGINEERING LTD will do best to protect any member of staff against stigmatization and discrimination in the workplace. Any employees found doing this, will face disciplinary action.
  • HIV-positive staff members will enjoy health and social protection just like any other member of staff living with a progressive or debilitating illness.
  • HIV /AIDS will be treated like any other medical condition when it comes to medical aid cover or the granting of sick leave.
  • Disciplinary action will be taken against any member of staff who is found to have deliberately disclosed the HIV/AIDS status of an employee to a third party.
  • GITUMA ENGINEERING LTD encourages its members of staff and their registered dependents to find out their HIV status and make use of support services.
  • Credible and cost-effective vendors for such services will be communicated to staff, who will be able to use such services discreetly. Vendors may not and will not be asked to disclose names or information of employees using their services.

CLIMATE ACTION POLICY

Our purpose is to build trust in the Kenyan society and to solve important problems for the Kenyan engineering industry. 

The climate is changing, and so is GITUMA ENGINEERING LTD.
The history of climate change began in the early 19th century when ice ages and other natural greenhouse effects were identified.
COP 27 resulted in countries delivering decisions reaffirming their commitment to limit global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
Based on COP 27 resolutions and coupled with our new company climate action strategy that elevates climate change response as one of the basic accelerators to business growth over the next five years, we have set ambitious commitments:

  • Achieve Net-Zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2050
  • Maintain carbon neutrality status and 100% low-carbon energy sources for all our op- erations
  • Only deal or engage with manufacturer or partners with carbon Climate Action Policy for all our products and services.
  • Turn every project into climate response and mitigation opportunity.
